Russian pipeline monopoly Transneft will discuss renewing the construction of the Burgas–Alexandroupolis pipeline with E.U. officials, Vice President Sergei Khodyrev said on Monday.
According to the suspended project’s plan, the pipeline’s annual throughput capacity will amount to 35 million tonnes, which could later be extended to 50 million tonnes.
In 2007, Russia, Bulgaria, and Greece signed an agreement to build a 285-kilometer 1.5 billion euro pipeline to transport Russian oil from the Bulgarian port of Burgas on the Black Sea to the Greek port of Alexandrupolis bypassing the congested waterways of the Bosphorus and Dardanelle straits.
