DJ EIA: 2013 World Oil Use Seen up 1.2% to 90.21 Mln B/D
By David Bird
NEW YORK--Global oil demand is expected to rise 1.2% to 90.21 million barrels a day this year, U.S. government forecasters said Tuesday.
That's a modest 100,000 barrels a day upward revision from the month-earlier demand forecast released by the Energy Information Administration.
In 2014, demand is expected to rise by 1.6% to 91.62 million barrels a day. Next year's demand is expected to be 160,000 barrels a day higher than expected a month ago.
The EIA raised its oil demand figures for the major industrialized nations that comprise the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development for 2012 through 2014, but demand still is expected to decline modestly this year and next year.
The EIA lowered demand estimates for non-OECD nations, including the former Soviet Union and non-OECD Europe, compared with the month-earlier forecasts, but raised the forecast for China, the world's biggest oil consumer after the U.S.
China's 2013 demand is expected to rise by 4.4% to 10.68 million barrels a day. In 2014, demand is expected to average 11.15 million barrels a day, after another 4.4% rise.
