DJ Schlumberger CEO Sees North America Upstream Spending Down 10%
North American spending on exploration and production will likely drop about 10% this year amid higher costs of capital and reduced borrowing capacity, the CEO of oilfield-services company Schlumberger says. Paal Kibsgaard adds that investor demand for capital discipline and bigger returns will also crimp upstream spending. Ultimately, he says, E&P investments in North America will be dictated by free cash flow.
