Second Gdansk-Plock crude pipeline to be ready in 2023
The second string of the Gdansk-Plock oil pipeline will be ready in 2023, three years ahead of the normal timeframe thanks to legislation signed into law in March, Igor Wasilewski, the CEO of Poland's state crude oil pipeline operator, PERN, said Monday.
The pipeline, which will be able to deliver 27 million mt/year of crude oil from Gdansk's Naftoport to PKN's Plock refinery, is being built to accommodate a rise in crude oil deliveries by sea as PKN continues to diversify its suppliers and reduce its dependence on Russian oil.
"In the past, we bought only one type of crude oil. Now there are almost 20 different types. The companies diversify their supplies so that the blend will be best suited for our refineries. Thanks to this, crude oil price fluctuations do not have a significant impact on fuel prices at the filling stations," Wasilewski told the IV Energy Security -- Pillars and Development Prospects conference in Rzeszow.
Russian REBCO crude oil, which accounted for more than 90% of PKN's refinery feedstock from 2007-2013, now has about a 70% share.
