Vietnam Moving Toward Being a Net Oil importer
Vietnam has never been a big oil producer, with 2018's daily average estimated to have been around 250,000 barrels. In comparison, the U.S., Russia and Saudi Arabia top 10 million. But production in Vietnam fell 12% last year and state-owned PetroVietnam said output could slide 10% annually through 2025 amid "declines from some of its most-mature domestic plays," notes Fitch Solutions. The firm thinks the country's oil-production declines will average 4%-5% in the next decade, meaning Vietnam will become a net oil importer. The country's first shipment from the U.S. arrived earlier this month.
