CFE tenders to boost Altamira LNG supplies through July
Recent LNG supply tenders by Mexico's state-owned electric utility are likely to boost imports at the Altamira terminal on the country's Gulf Coast to levels similar to those seen in the early part of the summer last year, data show.
CFE's call last week for an additional seven cargoes at Altamira lifted the expected monthly imports for May, June and July to four cargoes apiece.
In 2018, Mexico imported a similar volume of LNG at Altamira, taking 13 cargoes from May through July, S&P Global Platts Analytics data show.
In 2019, though, startup of the 2.6 Bcf/d Sur de Texas-Tuxpan import pipeline had been expected to lower LNG supply requirements at the terminal in the summer months.
On recent quarterly earnings calls, joint project developers TC Energy and IEnova separately announced a June commercial in-service date for the project.
TC Energy said it expected mechanical completion on the Sur de Texas pipeline in May. IEnova said commissioning activities for line-packing and testing purposes would also occur this month.
