Russian Druzhba crude oil deliveries to Slovakia refinery resume

Russian crude oil deliveries to Slovnaft's Bratislava refinery in Slovakia via the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline resumed Thursday, the company said.

Supplies of Russian crude are at the required technical quality, Slovnaft spokesman Anton Molnar said Thursday, following contamination issues. Slovak pipeline company Transpetrol told Slovnaft late Wednesday that oil was ready at the Ukraine border for shipping and there were no reported problems with quality, Molnar said.

Slovnaft was not severely affected by the cut in Druzhba supplies because of general maintenance works at the Bratislava refinery, which began at the start of May and are expected to last until the second half of June. The work has closed most of the refinery, with Slovnaft able to continue reduced operations using stocks on site, Molnar said.

Slovnaft, part of Hungary's MOL group, processes an average of 5.5-6.0 million mt/year of crude, centered on its Bratislava refinery.

Russian crude supplies were expected to reach neighboring Czech Republic between May 26 and May 28, according to the latest estimates from the State Materials Reserves Authority on May 17.

The Czech government earlier in May cleared the state reserve to make two loans of crude of over 100,000 mt each to Unipetrol, part of Poland's PKN Orlen group, to keep the Litvinov refinery running. The plant relies on Russia oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline. The latest loan from reserves was expected to tide the Litvinov refinery over until the end of May.
