OPEC President Says Delays in Deciding Dates Complicates Oil Exports Plans
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its Russia-led allies are facing problems in planning its exports if it doesn't come up with a date to meet urgently, the group's president said in a letter Tuesday.
In a document seen by The Wall Street Journal and circulated in the organization, Manuel Quevedo, the OPEC rotating president said: "There is an urgent need to convene... to decide the way forward" at least in the second half of the year.
Mr. Quevedo said crude exports allocations had already been decided for next month--after the expiration on July 1st of the current agreement to reduce production by 1.2 million barrels a day.
The OPEC president suggested meetings on July 1-2, which are different from a separate proposal to gather on July 10-12 backed by Russia. The meetings were already delayed from July 25 and 26 at Russia's request.
