DJ Exxon's $53 Billion Iraq Plan Hit by Contract Snags, Iran Tensions -- Reuters
A combination of contractual wrangling and security concerns are holding back E--xxon Mobil Corp.'s (XOM) plans for a $53 billion project to boost Iraq's oil output at its southern fields, Reuters reports, citing Iraqi government officials.
Negotiations have been stymied by terms that Baghdad objects to, especially Exxon Mobil's proposal to share the oil produced by two fields, Iraqi officials involved in the talks told Reuters.
The talks also have been held up by two separate evacuations of Exxon staff from Iraq, a result of escalating tension, Iraq's bigger neighbor, Reuters reports.
